Our Pick

Why we chose this one for the edit.

  • The pleated round shape is wrapped tight in soft boucle.
  • A strong wood frame and firm padding let it work as a seat or a footrest.
  • Use it for reading, snacks with the kids, or putting your feet up.

A great fit if
  • A soft ottoman like this one invites feet up without looking out of place.
  • This one's textured upholstery is built to keep its dimension.
  • You are curating a living room and want pieces that feel intentional together.
Maybe look elsewhere if
  • Your room is strictly committed to a sleek and formal aesthetic with no boho eclectic elements.
  • You have very tight room clearance where standard architectural dimensions would restrict open footpaths.

How to style it in your living room

The details that decide whether it looks considered or just put there. Worth two minutes before you commit to a spot.

  1. Give an accent chair breathing room. Floating it 6 to 12 inches away from the wall makes the chair look placed on purpose rather than shoved into a corner.
  2. Pair it with a side table that sits within easy reach and matches the arm height of the chair within 2 inches.
  3. At a kitchen island, measure from the floor to the underside of the counter first. Counter-height seating needs 10 to 12 inches of leg clearance, so measure before deciding.
  4. Under a dining table, make sure the armrests slide fully under the tabletop when the chair is pushed in.
  5. Vary the texture from your sofa. A boucle or velvet accent chair breaks up a leather or flat-fabric sofa instantly.
  6. Anchor an accent chair with a small round rug or tuck its front legs onto the main area rug to connect it to the seating group.
  7. Angle it 45 degrees toward the conversation area rather than facing flat toward the television.
  8. Add a low floor lamp or table lamp behind the shoulder to turn any accent chair into a dedicated reading corner.

Allow at least 30 to 36 inches of clear perimeter walk space so movement around your seating feels natural and relaxed.

Chairs & Stools questions, answered

What is the difference between counter height and bar height?
Counter-height stools have a 24 to 26 inch seat height for standard 35 to 37 inch kitchen counters. Bar-height stools have a 28 to 30 inch seat height for 40 to 42 inch bar counters.
How do I care for velvet and boucle upholstery?
Vacuum gently with an upholstery brush attachment to lift dust. Blot any spills immediately with a clean damp cloth without scrubbing. Use a fabric protector spray for added resistance.
Do these chairs require assembly?
Most accent chairs and bar stools require minor leg or base attachment, typically taking 10 to 15 minutes with included hardware.
Can accent chairs work in a small living room?
Yes. Choose armless designs, open frames, or swivel bases that keep sightlines open and take up less physical floor space.
